great gift to spark your creativity

The “John Hancock a Recipe" Gift:

GIFT STORY #1:

My mom is a great cook and when my sister and I moved out, we were frequently calling her and asking her for recipes. So one year she sat down and filled two notebooks (one for each of us) with the recipes of our most favorite family meals. She wrote them all by hand!!! I can't imagine how much time she spent on this project. Both my sister and I were tremendously grateful and happy. We now always have the recipes of my mom at hand and enjoy her little comments she left for us to discover.

Petya from Bulgaria

GIFT STORY #2:

One of the best gifts I’ve given was from my grandmother's recipe box. I scanned 3 recipes and sent them to the Printed Gift and they printed them on a tea towel. I gave them to my Mom, sister and cousins. They will cherish them in their kitchen looking at her handwriting and recipes she made often.

Why this gift is great

  • Gets better with time

  • Inks a tangible link between generations

  • Allows them to taste the love/nostalgia AND the food

  • Imperfections that come with handwritten items add charm, character, and authenticity

Brainstorming your version of this gift

Following Petya’s mom’s playbook, if you have your own recipes that you want to pass on to others:

  1. Handwrite the recipes

  2. Then gift the handwritten recipes (on paper or on other items - see below for ideas for alternative items to print them on)

Following Kim’s playbook, if you can track down recipes written by others, reprint them and gift them to people who will cherish them

Besides paper, here are alternative items you can print handwritten recipes onto:
