 Your 1-minute-a-week shortcut to
always having awesome gift ideas well in advance.

My attempt to make you smile
before getting to today’s gift ideas

Hi gift-givers! This newsletter will make you a better gift-giver faster than a teenage growth spurt.

One-ish more thing(s)
before today’s gift ideas

If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one, I’d highly recommend the Tendrils of Grief Podcast. This is a fantastic resource and community for anyone at any stage of their grieving journey.

In fact, I was just a guest on Tendrils of Grief Podcast (click here to listen). I’m going to do a follow-up newsletter focusing on gifts for those experiencing a loss, but if you need a bereavement gift idea now, please just reply to this email and I’ll be ready to provide suggestions. After being on the podcast, I’m flush with new gift ideas in this space and I’m eager to help you with suggestions.

Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity

The “next size up their favorites" Gift:

My father is a very practical gift-giver. His go-to gift for his grandchildren (my young kids) is to give them the next size up of their favorite clothing. For example, my son loves his yellow rainboots and my dad has made sure that we always have the next size up ready to go.

Brandon from New Jersey

Why this gift is great

  • Practical

  • Limits guesswork

  • Gift to child and parent(s)/caregiver(s)

  • Gift with a high probability of success

Brainstorming your version of this gift

Before you try to guess, inquire with a parent or the kid (gift recipient). They’ll know best about:

  • Size

  • Retailer

  • Which items will be well received

If you have a photo of them wearing the item, consider using Google Lens free image search option to identify retailers who carry the item (here’s a Google Lens tutorial)

Knowing clothing items eventually get discontinued, you might want to consider buying the next 2 sizes up

Items to consider for next-size-up opportunities:

  • Coats

  • Pajamas

  • Footwear

  • Sportswear

  • Hats/gloves

  • Shirts/tops

  • Pants/bottoms

Making this gift happen

Have you been inspired by a gift idea shared in the BGC newsletter? It would be the highlight of my week to hear from you about it! Here’s who made my week:

In response to Low-cost gift of a lifetime (Thanks Dawn!):

“This is an amazing gift idea!!! Thank you so much and thank you to Dawn!! My nieces did something slightly similar when they created a poster for their parents’ thirtieth anniversary- they did Thirty Things We Love About You.”

Wendy from Alberta, Canada

I LOVE this! It's my Mum's 60th coming up and I think I might do that.
