Gift idea time! Here’s a story of a
great gift to spark your creativity

The “mishap keepsake" Gift:

Someone sent me the story of this epic gift that they saw on Reddit and I just had to share.

The other day my dad fell off a 10 ft ladder and through a drop ceiling. I just happened to be walking by and was able to catch him on his way down. This was the tile he went through and now his Christmas present is finished.

Why this gift is great

Brainstorming your version of this gift

 BGC Courtesy Tips:

  • Ensure the item isn’t a burden (small items are safest)

  • Only give this gift when you’re sure your recipient can take their mishap lightly

Mishap occasions that could inspire future keepsake gifts (plus gift ideas):

  1. Home remodeling blunders

  2. Clothing being stained or ripped (repurpose the clothes)

  3. When something is damaged (repurpose cracked window)

  4. Minor car accidents (repurpose the broken taillights into artwork)

  5. Drinks being spilled (turn a stained piece of carpet into a custom drink coaster)

  6. When something breaks (repurpose broken home appliances, repurpose plates)

  7. Getting lost (frame a custom map featuring the location where the person got lost, adding a heartfelt message)

  8. Cooking failures (a printed recipe that features bold print or highlighted color where the mistake was made)

  9. Misprinted office documents (custom mouse pad of misprinted document, repurpose misprinted pages into handy notepads)

  10. Any accidents/mistakes that in the future can be laughed about or serve as inspiration

I listened to your interview on the podcast Tendrils of Grief and it was wonderful. We DO give the stuff that is convenient and comfortable for us rather than thinking "what do they NEED or would be most helpful at this difficult time." It has changed my approach when deciding what to do with people facing such a traumatic time.
