This is Better Gift Coach, where we firmly believe that pulling a good-natured April Fools Day prank on someone that makes them laugh can be a gift in itself (for both of you).

On that note, we also want to remind you that you can recycle a prank and turn it into a future birthday, anniversary, or holiday gift!

I’ve been planning an April Fools joke to play on Rob for MONTHS!! I got him good! When he came inside he kept asking, “What IS all that?!?” I had to explain that it was 6 months of saved [Amazon] boxes.

Most popular April Fool’s pranks involve food (e.g. switching salt & sugar, wrapping veggies in candy wrappers, etc.) or beauty supplies (e.g. switching hand soap with cooking oil). Those are all classics and present souvenir opportunities for future gifts.

Here are a couple pranks that I thought were more original:

iPhone keyboard shortcut – it only takes a few steps to program an iPhone to auto-populate a replacement word for commonly used words (e.g. “Yippee-Ki-Yay” every time they type the word “yes”). Just get their unlocked phone and head to Settings > Keyboard > Text Replacement. You’re welcome.
Build up to nothing – In the days/weeks leading up to April 1st, tell someone that you have the best April Fools Day prank to pull on them. Then when the day comes…do nothing. They’ll be walking on eggshells all day.

One thing I've started doing for long-distance friends is tucking some money into my condolence note and saying, please spend this on something that comforts you. This was immensely helpful. Somehow being cared for in this way not only fed us, but made us feel mothered and so loved by the people we still had with us on earth. - Lynanne
